Drainage

Commencing in late January with completion late February 2017, concrete works will be undertaken to improve drainage at the following locations:

  • Between Woodside Road and Haeusler Drive – Spoon drain construction across North Road and along North Side of North Road
  • On opposite side of road to Church Street – Mountable kerbing construction and side entry pit construction to collect storm water runoff

During drainage works North Road will remain open to traffic under traffic manaement.  Pleae observe all posted signs and traffic control.

This work is being undertaken in preparation for road improvement works that will be undertaken during the March/April 2017, over a period of approximately one week.

Stage 2 Complete

Stage 2B of the traffic management scheme to construct two additional driveway links, one immediately to the east of the Federation Way intersection and the other between the intersection with William Street and Nixon Street, has been completed together with pavement renewal and drainage works.

Further pavement renewal and drainage will be undertaken in the 2016/17 road renewal program.

Tidy up of the temporary detour road, removal of bunting and final site tidy up will be undertaken as soon as possible in spring.

North Road Closed from 7pm Friday 17 June

Asphalt work has been rescheduled to take place from 7pm on Friday 17 June.

North Road will be closed from Nairne/Woodside Road to Bridge Street.

Detours will be in place and access to properties on North Road will be available under traffic management direction.

Road Closure to be Rescheduled

Testing completed on Saturday revealed some remedial base preparation works were required before asphalt can be laid.

This together with the rain forecast for Sunday, resulted in the proposed closure for 5 June being postphoned.

An update will be provided once the works have been rescheduled.

North Road Closed Sunday 5 June 2016

Following the completion of pavement renewal works in March, efforts have been concentrated on construction of the additional safety treatments which consist of driveway links (single lane over a short section of road to slow traffic), one immediately to the east of the Federation Way intersection and the other between the intersection with William Street and Nixon Street.

To facilitate installation of asphalt for the driveway links and undertake maintenance on the previously installed driveway links, North Road, from Nairne/Woodside Road to Bridge Street, will be closed to all vehicles on Sunday 5 June 2015 between 7am and 5pm.  This is subject to continued favourable weather conditions leading up to and on 5 June.

Access to properties on North Road will be available under traffic management direction.

Please be aware of changing traffic conditions and observe all posted signs for the safety of workers and the community.

April 2016

Pavement renewal works included in the 2015/16 budget have recently been completed.

Work will now commence on the additional safety treatments which consist of driveway links (single lane over a short section of road to slow traffic) immediately to the east of the Federation Way intersection and the other between the intersection with William Street and Nixon Street.

In preparation, work will shortly commence to construct temporary passing areas on North Road to allow vehicles to continue to use North Road and move safely past the worksites during construction of the driveway links.  Buses will also be able to continue to use North Road as per their current schedules.

Council’s contractors have advised that the works to create the passing areas will be completed by the end of March.  Work to construct the driveway links is scheduled to commence in early April and weather permitting to be complete by end of June 2016.

Signage and traffic management will be in place to direct motorist to use the detours as required.  Please be aware of changing traffic conditions and observe all posted signs for the safety of workers and the community.

March 2016

Road Renewal and Asphalting

Council’s contractors have advised that the road pavement renewal and asphalt patching works on North Road between Shetland Road and Junction Street have been scheduled to commence from 7 March 2016 and take approximately three days to complete, weather permitting.

Pavement renewal works include:

  • Road pavement and road surface renewal between Shetland Court to around the bend to east of Clydesdale Place
  • Targeted asphalt patching between this bend and Junction Street
  • Road pavement and road surface renewal of the curve west of Piney Ridge Road

While works are underway, there may be limited access to driveway entrances and vehicles should not be left parked on the road.  Detours will be posted to direct motorists around the work zone.

Please be aware of changing traffic conditions and observe all posted signs for the safety of workers and the community.

February 2016

Tree Pruning and Detour Road

In preparation for construction of the driveway links and road resurfacing, some vegetation and tree pruning to provide a safe traffic corridor from Junction Street to Piney Ridge Road will be undertaken along North Road.

A temporary detour road will be constructed to maintain traffic flow during the construction period.

January 2016

No Access to Clydesdale Place from North Road  – 8 and 11 January

Council’s contractors have advised that preparation for the replacement of the Spoon Drain at Clydesdale Place will be undertaken on Friday 8 January with concrete to be poured on and Monday 11 January, weather permitting.

While contractors are on site, there will be no access to Clydesdale Place from North Road.  Cover panels will be put in place to provide access during the weekend and the following week while the concrete cures. Please follow posted detours and be aware of changing traffic conditions.

Project Information

After extensive community consultation, Council endorsed a Traffic Management Plan for North Road, Nairne in October 2013.  Further information about the consultation and Stage1 of construction can be found at:

Stage 2 Traffic Management Plan

Construction of the Stage 1 and Stage 2A treatments were completed in 2014/15 and consisted of entrance treatment at Woodside/Nairne Road, two driveway links (single lane over a short section of road to slow traffic), the realignment of the intersection at Junction Street and improved 50km/h signage.

Funding to complete Stage 2B of the traffic management scheme to construct two additional driveway links, one immediately to the east of the Federation Way intersection and the other between the intersection with William Street and Nixon Street, has been included in Council’s 2015/16 budget. Council’s Contract Project Manager will be visiting properties immediately fronting the driveway links to personally advise of proposed works and timing.

Pavement Renewal

In response to the community feedback, Council will also be commencing pavement renewal and drainage works on North Road between Woodside/Nairne Road to Junction Street.

Works during 2015/16 will include:

  • Kerb and guttering on the south side between Shetland Court and Clydesdale Place
  • Road pavement and road surface renewal between Shetland Court to around the bend to east of Clydesdale Place
  • Targeted asphalt patching between this bend and Junction Street
  • Road pavement and road surface renewal of the curve wast of Piney Ridge Road

This will improve road ride ability, drainage in the area, bus service access and safety. Roads to Recovery funding of $275,000 has been allocated in 2015/16 to undertake this renewal work.

Investigation and design work will commence in preparation for reconstruction of the first 200 metres of North Road from Woodside/Nairne Road in anticipation of construction in 2016/17 subject to Council’s future budget consideration.

A plan outlining the staged works is available here: North Road Stage 2 and Renewal Plan(197 kb)

Timing of Works

The anticipated program for construction of the Stage 2B traffic management scheme and pavement renewal is as follows:

  • November/December 2015 – Kerb and guttering
  • December 2015 to March 2016 – Asphalt resurfacing and patching
  • March 2016 to June 2016 – Driveway link at Federation Way
  • March 2016 to June 2016 – Driveway Link William/Nixon

Some initial survey and pavement analysis commenced the week of 28 September.  Further information regarding construction timing will be posted as the works are scheduled with the contractors.

North Road/Bridge Street

Initial planning and concept design has also commenced to improve the safety of the North Road/Bridge Street intersection including pedestrian linkages with Main Road and Bridge Street.  Detailed design is expected to be completed in 2016/17 and construction anticipated for 2017/18 subject to the outcome of a Black Spot Funding application and Council approval for budget allocation.

Nairne’s Main Street Masterplan

Whilst not directly affecting North Road, community consultation “reNew of Nairne’s Main Street” has also recently concluded.  12 priorities for change were identified and incorporated support for a small supermarket at the former Chapman’s site, wider footpaths, making the main street easier to get to from Nairne’s residential areas.  The improvements detailed above for North Road will play an important part of the Main Street renewal program.     Further information about the reNew project can be found at: http://www.dcmtbarker.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=1116
