The District Council of Mount Barker’s Annual Business Plan for 2014/15 includes construction for the upgrade of the intersection of Compson Road, Dalebank Court with Old Princes Highway.

Lights On!

The Compson Road intersection is scheduled to be lit up on 31 December 2015.

Following a lengthy process between DPTI and SA Power Networks over the past month or so, the current installation arrangement for the switchboard has been accepted.

Thank you for your patience while Council continued to advocate between the two entities.

Due the lead time with manufacture and delivery of the light poles and it is anticipated that the poles will be installed towards the end of August with energisation by SA Power Network to follow.

The road will remain under reduced speed until the lighting component is complete.

Background

Preliminary designs were prepared and traffic consultants engaged to review traffic movements at the intersection.  This was followed by detailed engineering survey and consultation with adjacent landowners to finalise the design.  The project includes:

  • kerb and gutter realignment for Compson and Dalebank
  • Realignment of Dalebank at Compson
  • Relocation of bus stop on Old Princes Highway
  • linemarking improvements
  • Improvements to lighting
  • New road pavement

The total cost of the safety upgrade is $310,000.  Council has been successful in securing $154,000 funding from the 2014/15 State Black Spot Program, enabling construction to be undertaken in the current financial year.

Construction is scheduled to commence the week of 18 May 2015 and be complete by end of July 2015, subject to weather and any unforeseen circumstances

Council will be working very closely with the contractor to ensure traffic management is well considered.
