The upgrade of the intersection of Adelaide Road and Morphett Street at Mount Barker will facilitate changes to the bus routes into and out of Morphett Street to meet the future transport needs of Mount Barker.  The intersection upgrade will accommodate the left turn movement from Adelaide Road to Morphett Street and the right turn movement from Morphett Street to Adelaide Road for a 14.5 metre long rigid bus.

This upgrade will affect Adelaide Road which is under the care and control of the Department of Planning, Transport & Infrastructure (DPTI) and Morphett Street and Dumas Street which is under Council’s control.

April 2013

The upgrade of this intersection has been completed. Works undertaken include:

  • construction of new kerbing, pavements and asphalt overlay, including widening
  • reconstruction of footpaths and service pit adjustments
  • construction of a new retaining wall and fencing
  • relocation of DPTI traffic signals
  • signage and line marking
  • stormwater drainage modifications

March 2013

Works expected to be undertaken the week of 11 March include:

  • Relocation of signal poles
  • Footpath paving
  • Removal of existing kerbing
  • Placement of rubble to areas of pavement widening
  • Landscaping works along Morphett Street (southern side)
  • Note: Asphalt is scheduled to commence Thursday 21/3/2013 (night works).

Works expected to be undertaken the week of 4 March include:

  • Relocation of signal poles
  • Completion of pram ramps at the southern corners of the intersection
  • Relocation of water meter in Morphett Street
  • Completion of kerbing and driveway invert in Morphett Street
  • Note: Footpath paving is scheduled to commence Tuesday 12/3/2013

February 2013

Works expected to be undertaken the week of 25 February include:

  • Kerb demolition and reinstatement in Morphett Street
  • Tree removal / replacement to coordinate kerbing works in Morphett Street
  • Completion of all footings for traffic signal poles

January 2013

The project includes:

  • construction of new kerbing, pavements and asphalt overlay, including widening
  • reconstruction of footpaths and service pit adjustments
  • construction of a new retaining wall and fencing
  • relocation of DPTI traffic signals
  • signage and line marking
  • stormwater drainage modifications
  • relocation of existing Telstra plant

Council has appointed Kent Civil Pty Ltd, who will commence construction at the beginning of February 2013.  It is expected that works will be completed within 8-10 weeks.

Traffic management will be in place to direct the high traffic volumes through this intersection while works are underway.  While all effort will be made to minimise inconvenience to business and the community, road users are advised to use alternate routes to avoid delays.

It is expected that no road closures will be required.  Work will be carried out between 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, Monday to Friday and Saturdays if required.  Night works will occur while asphalt is laid.
