Background

At the Council meeting held on 3 March 2008, the report on the planned construction of a temporary roundabout at the intersection of Gawler Street, Cameron Road and Mann Street and the need for a permanent roundabout to replace it at a later date was received. The report advised that the temporary roundabout would not address any drainage, pavement requirements, alignment of existing kerbing and impact of existing trees on traffic. Construction of the temporary roundabout was completed in 2008.

In 2008/09, Council committed $90,000 towards the implementation of the permanent roundabout together with receipt of an Auslink Blackspot Program allocation of $180,000 for an estimated project value of $270,000.

Roundabout design, land acquisition and investigations to locate services and gain improved knowledge of the geotechnical conditions have been undertaken in 2009.

Council received a report on the progress of the Gawler/Cameron/Mann Permanent Roundabout at the meeting held 2 November 2009. The report includes the roundabout design, arborist report and the tree replacement plan. The approved concept design can be viewed via the following link:

Detailed design work has been completed and tenders for the construction of the permanent roundabout were called in February. At it's meeting on 15 March 2010, Council awarded the contract to construct the roundabout to Beltrame Civil.

The construction will involve a combination of day and night works over a period of approximately 2 months with completion anticipated before the end of the 2009/10 financial year.
