May 2013

Council has awarded a contract for stage 3A of the progressive upgrade of Bald Hills Road to Civil Mining Solutions Pty Ltd. Stage 3A comprises a 420 metre section from approximately 350m north of the freeway tunnel, up to Davidson Road. An option to award a further stage 3B to Civil Mining Solutions Pty Ltd has also been approved and if the option is taken up it is proposed that Stage 3B will be undertaken in the first half of the 2013/2014 financial year. Stage 3B comprises a length of 640 metres from the junction with Davidson Road to approximately 80 metres south of the Old Princes Highway.

Location Plan for Stage 3A and 3B Bald Hills Road(779 kb)

Preliminary works are to commence the week beginning 13th May 2013 with construction to commence in the week beginning 20th May 2013 and Stage 3A is anticipated to be completed in August of 2013.

The upgrade comprises the following elements:

  • Widened road formation with 3.3m wide lanes and 1.5m sealed shoulders on both sides
  • New asphalt pavement
  • Retaining walls along sections of the western side
  • Kerbing along the western side of the road and installation of stormwater drainage
  • Lighting at the junction with Davidson Road
  • Guard rails along the eastern side, to protect road users from roadside hazards
  • Line marking and signage

By necessity, the construction works will result in delays and unavoidable inconvenience however Council will liaise closely with the Contractor to ensure traffic is managed appropriately and delays are minimised as much as possible.

Road users are advised to use an alternative route if possible to avoid delays during the construction period.
