Council undertakes an Unsealed Roads Program throughout the district each year. The list of roads will be updated as the program progresses.

The Mount Barker District Council is committed to maintaining roads in good condition to provide a safe environment.  Over the financial year, a number of unsealed roads are scheduled for resheeting.

During works there may be limited access to driveway entrances and vehicles should not be left parked on the road.

All endeavours will be made to ensure a minimum of inconvenience, but alternative routes should be planned while these works are underway.  Road users are requested to adhere to any detours that will be in place.

Sealing Unsealed Roads

Council has no formal plans to seal unsealed roads or construct new unsealed roads at this point in time however, it is in the process of investigating an upgrade program for unsealed roads that will be subject to funding.

Dust Suppression

Council maintains a network of some 450kms of unsealed roads.  Currently Council budgets over $900,000 each year to renew these roads on an as needed basis.  Some dust nuisance is inevitable from unsealed roads but Council aims to minimise dust by improving its road maintenance practices.

This includes improved grader operations, the use of high quality road making materials and in some cases the application of additives to reduce the abrasion of the road surface.  In the past, Council has used a recycled asphalt product to reduce dust and improve the road surface but this type of material is currently not available nor the solution sustainable.

Council is currently reviewing and trialling options for minimising dust and as an outcome of this review there may be further options considered.
